my fridge and freezer staples guide + fridge tour video!!
a peek inside my fridge 👀 + what I buy and where I get the best deals
Happy Friday 🫶☀️ Today’s newsletter is the much anticipated follow up to my Pantry Staples Guide from March—a guide to my fridge and freezer staples!
Since you’re here, you probably know by now one of my biggest tools for saving money, reducing waste, and shopping efficiently is to “shop” my fridge, freezer, and pantry while I’m making my grocery list. But having a shoppable refrigerator doesn’t just happen. You have to keep it stocked with simple but versatile items that can be used in all different types of recipes. Having this kind of well-stocked fridge allows you to spend less time wondering what to eat. When I open my freezer, I look at the proteins and vegetables I have in there, and use those as the starting points for building my meals. Once I have that foundation, I let my creativity take over.
I keep my fridge and freezer well-stocked, and thus, shopable at all times by following these two simple tips. First, I am constantly taking stock of what is in my fridge and freezer so I know what I actually need to buy at the grocery store. This might seem obvious, like duh, don’t buy what you already have. But I can’t tell you how many poor containers of Greek yogurt we used to let go bad in the back of our fridge before I started really taking stock of what we had. And second, I’m always shopping sales. I’m not just buying blocks of ground beef to put in my freezer for the fun of it. I wait, I bide my time, and when I see Aldi has ground beef on sale for $3.99/pound, I stock up. If you shop this way and wait to buy at the right time, you’ll almost always have the type of meat you want on hand, and you can save a lot of money.
For all the guide girlies out there, I also have a Kitchen Essentials Guide that gives an overview of the basic kitchen tools I rely on for my recipes, so check that out!
